Abstract:
This work aims to describe the phonology of the Suruí language, member of the Mondé family of Tupi stock, within a generative framework, giving special attention to morphophonemic changes attested at the boundaries of morphemes, clitics, and words, and within words. However, before delving into this subject, there is a discussion of the general phonology, and within it, as a special case, the phonology of ideophones; and of the syllable, with special attention to tone and stress. At the end there is a comparison of some of the data of this language with corresponding forms in Cinta-Larga, another language of the Mondé family.
