Abstract:
This paper is a presentation of reflexive pronouns used at the sentence level in Kayabí, a Tupi language of Brazil. The reflexive pronouns indicate coreference with the subject of the main clause and are used as: the subject or object of a dependent clause; the possessors of nouns or the axis of axis-relator phrases of either the dependent or the main clause. This system of coreferentiality is a valuable means of clearly identifying participants in a sentence without overloading by the excessive use of nouns or noun phrases.
